The surveillance frigate "Vêntose" called at Port of Spain from 1 to 4 October. During this port call, the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs , Dr. Amery Browne, boarded the ship accompanied by the French Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, H.E. Didier Chabert.
For more than ten years, the Ventôse, which is based in Martinique, has been involved in the fight against drug trafficking in the West Indies within a framework of international cooperation. With the help of its onboard helicopter, it has on many occasions intercepted fast ships used by drug traffickers to transport large quantities of drugs. The ship has also intervened in support of civilian populations in the region affected by natural disasters, including hurricanes.
A reception was held on board the ship on the evening of October 3, attended by around 120 guests, including local authorities, French and Trinidadian military personnel, and members of the French community.
The port call of the Ventôse marks the desire to resume cooperation and a partnership of trust between the French and Trinidadian security forces.
